WWW MK INFO CENTER UMK3 SNES FAQ Written by WorknMan & Ar-Kane Revision #2 Last Updated: 10/13/96 NOTE This is not complete yet. We know there's still a lot of things missing and it may look a little ugly in some places. Making things look nice and neat and getting every little detail in is not our worry at this point, that will come later. All we're trying to do for now is confirm and cram as much info in here as we possibly can .. we'll worry about the orginaztion thing later:) We have been in a room with two TV's .. one with UMK3 SNES and one with PSX Trilogy. We are hard at work on them both and will be updating this document again soon. WHAT'S NEW ----------- Revision 2 * Added: More stuff on the 1 button fatalities * Added: Bugs and Glitches section Revision 1.1 * Added: This what's new section:) * Added: Noob's babality (D-F-F-F-LP). I knew what it was, just forgot to add it last time:) * Added: 9th treasure chest box same as # 8 * Added: Brutality section in the character moves list * Simplified: Noob's babality (it's just F-F-F-LP) INTRODUCTION ------------ Ok, UMK3 for SNES is finally out. Already people have been bitching and complaining about how much it's lacking. Not as good of audio as the 32-bit MKs, a lot of the voices are gone and the graphics are not all that eye catching. But, we have been playing it now for the past few hours and I must say, this game is pretty damn cool .. we've had a blast with it! You don't have to wait for characters to load, you have Rain and Noob at your disposal (something that even the Saturn version didn't have) and codes that just make the game play bizarre:) DETAILS ABOUT THE GAME ---------------------- Not everything is listed here .. only what we feel is most important. * Rain and Noob Saibot are playable and on the select screen. They appear to be just like their Trilogy counterparts, except that we can't get Rain's Trilogy fatality to work (F-F-D-HP). * All the characters from the arcade are in with the exception of Sheeva. (Or is she really gone? :) There is also a dragon in the select screen, probably hiding a secret character. * Brutalities are in!! * The graphics/gameplay/sound effects are pretty much ventage MK3. Not a whole lot of detail has been added in this upgrade, with the exception of the UMK3 features/characters/backgrounds. * There doesn't seem to be any animalities in this game. altough there are still friendships and babalities. * Shao Kahn's treasure chest has only 10 boxes instead of 12. We have uncovered all but one (we just didn't get around to it:) * Most of Shao Kahn's voices are gone. You still get "Round 1" and stuff but no spoken character names. * There are a lot of vs screen codes from the arcade that don't seem to work in the SNES version .. but others do. * Scorpion's hellraiser is different .. it just takes the opponent back into the hell stage where they just catch on fire and die:) * Kitana's kiss of death only inflates heads .. same effect as Kabal's air pump fatality * The one button fatalities are back .. YESSS! * There seem to be plenty of glitches in there, which makes this game that much better:) =============================================================================================== CODES AND SECRETS ------------------ Tournament mode No, this is not the 8-player tournament mode .. it's the one from the original MK3 SNES game. You access it by first turing making sure the power is off on your SNES. Then, hold down the L and R buttons on the control pad and turn the game on. Keep the buttons held down and select regular kombat play (first of the three options). Instead of going to the character select sreen, you will be presented with a screen to choose your characters for the tournament. You can also hit up+Start on the control pad to have the computer select your characters randomly for you. This mode differs from the 8 player tournament mode in that characters jump in one right after the other once a character dies. There is no "tournament screen" .. it's just continuos play. You can also access this tournament mode via a vs screen code. (See VS SCREEN CODE section). Play as Human Smoke Choose Smoke. When any round is starting, hold HP+HK+BL+RUN and hold the control pad back. So if you were player 1, hold it left, and player 2 would hold it right. Shao Kahn's Treasure Chest After you beat Shao Kahn, you can choose a symbol. The higher skill level you choose, the more symbols you can pick from. Novice: Unknown as of yet Warrior: Unknown as of yet Master: Unknown as of yet Master: Unknown as of yet 1 MK Dragon : See the character's ending 2 MK Logo : Galaga 3 Yin-Yang : Fatality Demonstration 4 Number three : Fatality Demonstration 2 5 Question Mark : Fatality Demonstration (?) 6 Lightning Bolt : Fatality Demonstration (?) 7 Goro : MK3 Tournament Mode 8 Raiden : Endurance Match vs Noob & Ermac (possibly more) 9 Shao Kahn : Sane as number 8 10 Skull : Supreme fatality demonstration (does not show anything for Rain and Noob and does not show Brutalities.) Note - We think that 5 & 6 may just be repeats of 3 & 4. You can reach this treasure chest really easy by playing through the 8 player tournament mode. VS SCREEN CODES ---------------- Codes not from UMK3 Arcade (SNES specific) 995-995 Extended Fatality Time 091-293 Sweeping Disabled 445-000 Disables Timer 000-445 Disables Timer (Same as above) 999-995 Kombos Disabled 012-012 Timer Disabled/Health Recovery 432-234 Timer Disabled/Limited Damage 120-120 Shows Game Credits Before Fight 989-898 MK3 Tournament Mode (Glithes badly in 8-player mode!) 221-557 Always uppercut through ceilings 944-944 One round, one button fatalities (won't work in 8-player mode) 191-191 Turbo Mode Codes from UMK3 arcade 010-010 - Throwing Encouraged (displays funny message when you throw) 282-282 - No Fear EB Button Sky Dive Max Countdown 123-926 - No Knowledge that is not power Rest of the codes either haven't been tested or do not work. We couldn't get any of the "kombat zone" codes to work as well as alot of the codes that displayed text messeges (like "Skunky"). The 2-on-2 codes also do not work .. the characters explode by default so not much need for explosive kombat:) =============================================================================================== CHARACTER MOVES Key ----------------------- U = Up HP = High Punch HK = High Kick F = Forward BL = Block D = Down LP = Low Punch LK = Low Kick B = Back R = Run Move (distance): movement For movement: "-" means "then" "+" means "and" So D-F-HP+LP means Down, then forward, then hit HP and LP at the same time. Hold button (other thing) more things So "hold LP (D-F-D-F) HK" means "Hold LP, then tap D-F-D-F, then let go of LP, then hit HK, release HK" A word about "Hold button"... Sometimes you have to hold the button a certain amount of time. If something doesn't work that involves holding a button, hold it longer. If something requires UP, it helps to hold block, but it is not necessary. --------------------------------------- Friendships/Babalities: - Don't hit block during the winning round - You can be anywhere on the screen (unless otherwise specified) - You can do a friendship/babality after a doing a mercy (optional) --------------------------------------- Stage fatalities: Scorpion's Lair Shao Kahn's Tower The Subway The Pit III (see "Stage:" to see how to do these for each character) (the distance is always "up close") -------------------------------------- BRUTATLITIES These are like Killer Instinct Ultra combos. You start off by doing a series of button presses like a regular chain combo. You do about 10 of these button presses and the game goes into "fatality mode" and the CPU finishes the brutality automatically .. the hits just get faster and faster until your opponent explodes. If you've figured out how to do any of these, PLEASE let us know!! --------------------------------------- Mercy: Hold RUN (D-D) This gives your opponent a little bit of energy back after you beat them. - You have to hold run a certain amount of time. Around 2-3 seconds. - Your opponent has to have won one round. - You can be anywhere on the screen except close. - You have to do this if you want to do an Animality. After the mercy has been done, and it says "Finish him/her" again, anyone can do an animality. - You can't do more than one mercy per match. - You may do any finisher (Fatality, Friendship, Stage or Babality) after the mercy. This does not mean you HAVE TO do the mercy first. --------------------------------------- Random Select: Just like MK2. Up-Start at the select screen. The default players have to be selected for this to work. BRUTALITIES ----------------------------- Well, a lot of brutalities have been found .. and we can't seem to do them for nothin' :) But, I've had a lot of ppl mailing me saying that they are the same as in Trilogy. So, here are all the ones I have for Trilogy. Keep in mind that altough they should work, they're NOT confirmed by us. Wait for the screen to say "Finish Him" and do the following button taps: Cyrax-- HP, HK, HP, HK x2, HP, HK, HP, HK, LK, LP Johnny-- HP, LK, Hk, LP, HP, HK x2, HP x2, LP, HP Rain-- HP x2, BL, LK, HK, BL, LK, HK, BL, HP, LP Raiden (mk2)-- HPx2, LK x3, HK, LP x3, BL x2 Raiden (mk1)-- HP x4, BL, HK x2, LP, HP x3 Scorpion-- HP x2, BL, HK x2, LK, HK, HP x2, LP, HP H Smoke-- HP x2, BL, LK, HK, HP, HK, HP, HK, LP, LK C Smoke-- HP, LK x2, HK, BL x2, LPx2, HP x2, BL x2 Noob-- HP, LK, LP, BL LK, HK, HP, LP, BL, LK, HK Stryker-- HP, LP, HK, LK, HP, LP, LK, HK, HP, LP Baraka-- HP x3, LP x2, BL, HK x2, LK x2, BL Mileena-- HP, LP x2, HP, BL, HK, LK x2, HK, BL, HP, LP x<#> means do the button press x number of times. For example, HP x2 means press high punch twice. Rain ------------------------ Lightning: B-B-HP Controller: D-F-HP (move opponent around once projectile hits) Super Roundhouse: B+HK (Knocks opponent through the screen) Babality: F-B-B-HP Comments: If an opponent is jumping at you, roundhouse them through the screen. If you can time it just right, you can turn around and roundhouse them again. We have gotten up to three consecutive roundhouses to connect :) Noob Saibot ----------------------- Shadow Toss: F-F-HP Teleport Slam: D-U Skulls (projectile): D-F-LP Babality: D-F-F-F-LP Comments: It is believed by many that the skull projectile disables blocking for a brief period. However, we have found by trial and error that an opponent can still defend block against projectiles .. but Noob can still run in and hit them. ----------------------------- Ahhhhhhh yes, you probably will remember them well from MK3 .. and now they're baaaaaack:) The only way we know how to access them is through a vs screen code (see about). The button configuration works like this: Button B = Fatality (Close) Button X = (Appears to do nothing) Button Y = Fatality (Far) Button R = Babality Button A = Friendship Button L = Stage (Pit) Fatality Button L only works on stages where you can do stage fatlities. Also, the one button finishers don't seem to work with Rain and Noob :( BUGS AND GLITCHES ------------------ If you enter the tournament code (see codes section) and press up and start to let the computer do a random select for you, sometimes it "skips" a slot leaving the letter E where a character's icon should appear. If this happens, the game glitches really bad when it gets to that character in the tournament. For example, when it happened to me, I was playing as Classic Sub-Zero on the blue portal stage and then a character jumps on the screen, only they were invisible. The movement of my charater was really jerky and when I went to do a jump kick, SZ jumped of the bridge!!! If you're playing the 8 player tournament mode and enter the code for MK3 tournament mode (989-898), the graphics glitch out really bad, almost the same as in the above glitch. A lot of the glitches from MK3 and the one button fatalities appear to have been fixed. I tried a few but couldn't get them to glitch out like they used to:) EMAIL ----- Ar-Kane will be handling the email portion of this so if you have any info whatsoever about this game, please email it to him. (BTW: If you are wondering who Ar-Kane is, he's a friend of mine). As I stated earlier, I know this ain't done but this is all we can do for now cuz I got too many people writing and asking what the hell is taking so long with the Trilogy FAQ:) PLEASE, DO NOT MAIL WORKNMAN OR SUB-ZERO WITH ANY SNES UMK3 STUFF!!!!! Arkane's address is: arkane@rat.org NOTICE!!!!! Listen, if you have any questions about this game, we ask that you PLEASE hold off for a few days before asking until we can finish this .. as I am sure all your questions will be answered within the next few days. The above email address is basically up at this point for purposes of sending us any inforation you think we might could use (moves/codes, etc). Here are a few things you should know: * We don't know who the secret character is * There are no nudealities in this game * We will not mail you codes so don't ask * We will not mail you updates to this FAQ so don't ask * You can take anything you want from here so long as you credit your sources. KREDITS ------- Newer names will be added first * Brandon Let us know we had forgotten to include the Noob babality * Chris Farzad Rain's babality Once again, I gotta send props out to Rat for his UMK3 FAQ, which he gave us permission to use. Well, it's hard to know who to thank for this first batch of information. We've had lots of email about Rain and Noob's basic moves and the game details .. the list of names would be long .. so I'll just leave it at this .. you know who you are we really appreciate it :)
