Star Wars - Galaxies A guide for Bounty Hunting - the hardest proffesion - in SWG. Qaja's Bounty Hunter Investigation Guide ======================================== I. Introduction II. The guide itself a) Getting Inv. I&II b) Getting Inv. III c) Getting Inv. IV d) Some Extra Tips for a BH III. Info a) FAQ b) About ------------------------------ I. Introduction =============== It isnt really hard to say 'I wanna be a Master Bounty Hunter', but to make them meaningful can make you go mad; but why should you worry when there's a guide to help you out anyway?? :) Like every other profession, BH has also 4 columns. Three of them are pure weapons xp (Bounty Pistol, Bounty Carbine, Light Lightning Cannon), but the one that remains is the whole problem in a BH's life. Investigation. You get this kind of xp everytime you kill a mark. Depending on your missions difficulty you get high or low amounts of this xp. This guide will cover everything you need to know to grind Investigation. If you follow the directions mentioned here probably, you'll have no problem at all to get Inv. IV. II. The Guide ============= a) Getting Inv. I&II Before you start taking missions, I highly reccomend you to get nice weapon skills, because your marks wont be cheap gubburs. You should also get a nice piece of composite armor to start with. If you have them, go to Coronet, Corellia and there to the front of the capitol building. There are two BH mission terminals and a SpyNet guy there. Double click on a terminal and get close to the SpyNet guy WITHOUT closing the mission list or letting it close itself. Normally the logic is, you get a mission from the terminal, talk to the SpyNet guy and he gives you a waypoint to where your mark is, but since we want to grind Inv. as soon as possible, we're gonna try to get missions as close as they can be. So, 1) Get a mission, 2) Talk to the SpyNet guy... Repeat this until you get marks within the city boundaries. If you get one, go to the waypoint and kill your mark. Then come back and repat the mission taking process. The missions should give you 100-150 BH xp, but *DON'T* get Inv. I as soon as you gather 1000 BH xp. You should reach your cap of 10k BH xp and then get Inv. I&II together. The main reason for this is that Inv. I is what you call 'torture'. Your droids get killed, if they don't they provide wrong wp's, they are slow etc. Because of this you should get Inv. I&II at the same time. After you get both of them, the missions start to get a bit more complicated. b) Getting Inv. III After you have Inv. II, your method of BH ing changes. You dont just get a waypoint, go whistling all the way and kill your mark and be the hero anymore. Now, droids are invlolved too. There are two types of droids you'll use, 1) Arakyd Probe Droids, 2) Seeker Droids. Arakyds are used to learn which planet your mark is on and Seekers are to learn the exact wp on a planet. Go stock up some of these droids and go to Kaadara, Naboo. You can't get any info from your old SpyNet guy anymore. Your new informant is on Kaadara, in front of the Guild Hall. After you get a mission from one of the BH terminals in front of the Starport, go talk to him. He won't give you a wp anymore, but a biological signature for you to program it into your droids. After you talk to him, go out of town into the wilderness (say, 400-500m far) and call one of your Arakyds. (You do this simply by choosing the 'Droid find' option from the radial menu of the droid). After 20 secs, a droid will land somewhere near you. Go to it and give it the bio sig (radial menu, transmit bio sig). After 4-5 minutes it'll tell you which planet your target is on. Go to that planet and as soon as you arrive there, take out a Seeker droid (the same way you call an Arakyd, but this time you dont have to wait, just select 'Droid find' and you're done). WITHOUT waiting, Head to the wp of your mark. He wont be there 90% of the time. Wait there until your seeker gives you a new wp. Now you know which direction your target is headed, so just send out another droid and follow the wp. Kill the mark as usual and you're done. Repeat until you get enough xp to get Inv. III. c) Getting Inv. IV This time its just a little different form getting Inv. III. First of all, your informant is now the guy close to the med center (there are two, but you'll understand which one is the right one). Now your droids are much much faster and they have another option on their radial menus - Droid Track. Similar to Droid find, Track first gives you the wp, but doesnt stop following your mark unless you get a message 'Your probe droid lost track'. That means, it does 'droid find' in small periods of time repeatedly. Don't ever lose your patience and get enough xp to get Inv. IV. This may take days (depending on how much you play the game), but eventually you'll get it. Congratulations, you've just finished the HARDEST column in the whole game!! d) Some Extra Tips for a BH A good BH never takes missions without getting a good buff. Marks are tough and some have strong resistance against acid, heat electricity etc. attacks. I advise you to do missions after you get a nice buff. While grinding Inv. your best friends will be your droids. You need to know how many of them you need and how much you should pay. Vendors usually sell droids in crates. The number on a crate of Arakyds indicates that it has that much x 6 droids in it. The number on a seeker droids crate indicates it has that much x 11 droids in it. I usually buy a crate of 5X6 arakyds for 5k, a crate of 5X11 seekers for 7-8k. Although BH takes up most of your skill points, you should get Novice Commando + the flamethrower column unless you have a specialization for another weapon. The Flamer is one of the strongest weapons in the game and makes your job very easy while handling with a mark. Nevertheless, the ideal weapon of a BH is the LLC (the Light Lightning Cannon). Getting the LLC column first is also another good option. Some people combine BH ing with Creature Handling. This way, they get good pets and have less troublr in killing their marks. Although this is a good strategy, you'll need to surrender nearly all your CH skills if you wanna master BH. The last thing you need to remember is the importance of your armor. If you don't wanna pay 9k for buffs everytime, you gotta get a good armor. I suggest you get a set of Adv. Comp. armor with at least 50% base resistances. Then get a buff and put it on. Even after your buff dies, the armor remains on you. III. Info ========= a) Frequently Asked Questions ------------------------------- ------------------------------- Q: Hey, my droids gave me a wp, but i can't see anyone there. What's the problem? A: *sigh* This is the most terrible problem with BH - bugged marks. Some marks don't spawn at the place where they oughtta spawn. They haven't fixed it yet (today's the 9th of April, 2004) and there is not much to do about it other than to cry about it. There is a possible solution; your mark may appear there if you attack an npc close to the wp. Other than that, there's nothing to do about it, sorry. ------------------------------- ------------------------------- Q: I had a wp in front of a big lake; when i got to the wp, it said Mission Incomplete and left me there helpless. Why did it happen? A: This is another problem with marks spawning at bad locations. Ifever you get a wp in the middle of big lakes or seas, abort your mission. ------------------------------- ------------------------------- Q: My mark spawned inside a tree!! I can see him but says i cant attack! Is there a possible solution? A: Of course there is, just set up a camp nearby that will clear the objects around it, then feel free to kill your mark. ------------------------------- ------------------------------- Q: Whoa! There are two of the npcs i need to kill and they are swawned at the very same coords!! A: Deal with both of them.. Good luck.. ------------------------------- ------------------------------- Q: I can't call an Arakyd from orbit. Says i need to move to a different location. What shall I do? A: Move a bit further than town until you can call the droid. ------------------------------- ------------------------------- Q: I called the droid, but I can't see it anywhere although it says it has landed. A: Wander around, it should be there. ------------------------------- ------------------------------- b) About This guide is written by Qaja.
