Sorry. * * * ************************************************************************ Version history --------------- v1.22 - Minor spelling fix v1.21 - Minor spelling fix v1.2 - Added city names to help you locate non-city areas (example: instead of "He Nei", you will see "He Nei (Luo Yang)"; also changed the tactics names to reflect the PS2 version labels. v1.15 - Minor spelling fix v1.14 - Apparently, a viceroy can send someone to search Lang Xie and discover the Japanese. Fixed. Thanks Dantkrees from GameFAQs.com v1.13 - Spelling fixes and some clean up. v1.12 - Changed some territory names (Mount Tai = Tai Shan, Wu Zhang Plains = Wu Zhang Yuan) v1.11 - For Battle of Guan Du, Cao Cao should be stationed at Guan Du, he can't be at Bai Ma. Thanks to Verenti at GameFAQs.com v1.1 - Added missing Major Event #8 (Conferring the Throne) -- oops! Cleaned up some writing; removed "you have to play as a certain faction" advice since it seems that many events don't require you to play as a specific faction v1.03 - Spelling fix: Lang Xie (not Lang Ye) v1.02 - Spelling and grammatical fixes; no content changes v1.01 - Minor fixes v1.0 - Original draft Some legal technicalities ------------------------- "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms" series is (c) Koei Games (http://www.koeigames.com). Otherwise, it's probably not going to work. Also, for the Searching Events, you simply have to search the event location to make it happen. The Major Events category of events has movies. There is some overlap between the Searching and Major events as you have to search for Zhuge Liang, search for the Duke of Shan Yang (the deposed Emperor Xian), and send your liege to search Tai Shan. Recommended scenarios and recommended factions are simply that: recommendations. You are not obligated to play the indicated scenarios or factions, but going by the recommendations makes it easier to see the event. Please also note that these are guidelines: sometimes the event you want does not happen even though you may have all the requirements fulfilled. All I can suggest to you is try something a bit different (e.g. use another officer, try the trigger at another time of the year, increase your faction's reputation level, etc.) Some terms worth distinguishing: PLANNING PHASE: The part of your turn where you issue your orders to your officers, set up armies to march and fight, etc. This is to be distinguished from the... EXECUTION PHASE: After you have finished making your orders in the Planning Phase, the Execution Phase is where time passes and your orders are carried out. STANDARD SCENARIO: This is a normal scenario, out of a total of 10 scenarios. It is to be distinguished from a... "WHAT IF?" SCENARIO: This is a hypothetical scenario that you can play. They set up the map in a way that is slightly different than what the novel or history has put it in that year. There are up to 10 of these too, but not all of them are available: they have to be unlocked by finishing a game having defeated all the non-Chinese tribes. TACTICAL POINT TOTAL: This is the proficiency of your officer's tactical abilities. It ranges from 0 to 1,000. The higher the TPT, the more likely the officer will be to use that category of tactics, and with greater effectiveness. JIAN YE/MO LING: This city was originally called Mo Ling before Sun Quan moved his capital to here from Chai Sang, at the request of his trusted advisor, Zhang Hong. From that point forward, the city was renamed to Jian Ye. Onward! -------------------------------- EVENTS ------------------------------- SEARCHING EVENTS 1. THE THREE VISITS 2. THE THREE VISITS RECOMMENDED SCENARIO: Standard Scenario #5 (207) RECOMMENDED FACTION TO CONTROL: Liu Bei EVENT LOCATION: Long Zhong (Xin Ye) OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 1. It is either February, March, or any time between June and October. 2. Liu Bei is a liege. 3. Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, and Xu Shu serve Liu Bei's faction. 4. Liu Bei, Xu Shu and Zhuge Liang are all alive. 5. Xu Shu's loyalty to Liu Bei is 96 or higher. 6. Liu Bei controls the port of Long Zhong. 7. Zhuge Liang has not entered the game yet. 8. Xu Shu tells Liu Bei that Zhuge Liang should be found at Long Zhong. TRIGGER: Send Liu Bei to search Long Zhong. RESULTS: 1. You will get the first event where Zhuge Liang is not at home (the first two "visits" being summarized in this event). 2. Once Liu Bei returns to his home city, send Liu Bei to search Long Zhong again. This time, he will meet Zhuge Liang, who will agree to serve Liu Bei. 3. Liu Bei's faction's reputation goes up. Zhuge Liang's loyalty is 100. NOTE: If Xu Shu discovers Zhuge Liang instead, Liu Bei has at most one year to hire Zhuge Liang (again, send Liu Bei to hire him; in the meantime, Zhuge Liang will not join any other faction). After one year, ANY faction can try to hire Zhuge Liang. PERSONAL NOTE: That's interesting how Liu Bei has exclusive rights to Zhuge Liang for a while. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2. THE DUKE OF SHAN YANG RECOMMENDED SCENARIO: Standard Scenario #8 (225) RECOMMENDED FACTION TO CONTROL: Sun Quan EVENT LOCATION: He Nei (Luo Yang) OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 1. Your faction will discover the deposed Han Emperor Xian, Liu Xie, who has been living as the Duke of Shan Yang. You will have a choice to either protect the Emperor or act stubbornly. 2A. If you decide not to protect Liu Xie, he dies. 2B. Your faction's reputation goes down. 2C. The loyalty of your faction's officers, who have Justice ratings of 11 or higher, goes down. 2D. All factions will have their relations with you worsen. 3A. If you decide to protect him, Liu Xie will officially abdicate his claim to the throne to you. 3B. Your faction's reputation goes up. 3C. The loyalty of your faction's officers goes up. 3D. You are promoted to Emperor and accordingly you get the Emperor's level of ranks and titles to which you may grant your officers. 3E. If your faction is NOT a Liu, then all the Liu factions (Liu Bei, Liu Yan, Liu Biao, etc.) will have worse relations with you. Otherwise, the relations remain as they are. 3F. Any other factions whose lieges also have the title of Emperor will their relations with your faction worsen. PERSONAL NOTE: I would have thought that Cao Pi would be rather happy if Liu Xie dies at someone else's hand, so his relationship with your faction wouldn't worsen...but maybe he's a sadist and wanted Liu Xie to live in shame ("a fate far worse than death" kind of deal). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. You will have a choice to either agree or refuse to escort Cai Yan on her return from the Xiongnu tribes. 2. If you refuse to escort Cai Yan, she does not return. There is neither a penalty nor a reward. 3A. If you agree, your faction's reputation and the Intelligence of the officer whom you sent to Ping Yang will go up. 3B. WANG YUN'S CHAIN PLOT RECOMMENDED SCENARIO: What If? #2 (191) or Standard Scenario #2 (190) RECOMMENDED FACTION TO CONTROL: Dong Zhuo EVENT LOCATION: n/a OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 1. It is after April 192. 2. The Han Emperor has not been deposed yet. 3. Dong Zhuo, Lu Bu, and Wang Yun are all alive. 4. Dong Zhuo is a liege and his faction has the Han Emperor. 5. Lu Bu and Wang Yun both serve Dong Zhuo's faction. TRIGGER: Event happens at the end of an Execution Phase. RESULTS: 1. This is a two-part event which happens at the end of the Execution Phase. The first part happens between January and July and the second part happens between April and July. 2. Lu Bu kills Dong Zhuo. 3. All items belonging to Dong Zhuo go to Lu Bu. 4. If Dong Zhuo had armies on the battlefield, they automatically retreat to their home bases. 5. If Niu Fu, Dong Min, and Li Ru are also in the same city, Bargain, or port as Dong Zhuo, they die. If they are not in the same place, they survive. 6. Lu Bu succeeds Dong Zhuo as liege of the faction. 7. The loyalty of both Wang Yun and Li Su goes up. 8. The loyalty of Li Jue, Guo Si, Zhang Ji, Zhang Xiu, Fan Chou, Jia Xu, Hu Che'r, Niu Fu*, Dong Min*, and Li Ru* goes down. * if those three are still alive PERSONAL NOTE: Although it says to play as Dong Zhuo's faction, I have seen this event happen even though I was playing as another faction; I guess its importance to China as a whole would permit this event to be seen even though you are not playing as Dong Zhuo's faction. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3 and 4. THE THREE VISITS RECOMMENDED SCENARIO: Standard Scenario #5 (207) RECOMMENDED FACTION TO CONTROL: Liu Bei EVENT LOCATION: Long Zhong (Xin Ye) OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 1. It is either February, March, June, or October. 2. Liu Bei is a liege. 3. Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, and Xu Shu serve Liu Bei's faction. 4. Liu Bei, Xu Shu and Zhuge Liang are all alive and well. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. THE BATTLE OF GUAN DU RECOMMENDED SCENARIO: Standard Scenario #4 (200) RECOMMENDED FACTION TO CONTROL: Cao Cao EVENT LOCATION: n/a OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 1. It is January to October. 2. Cao Cao's and Yuan Shao's factions have hostile relations with each other. 3. There is no coalition against either Cao Cao or Yuan Shao. 4. Xu You serves Yuan Shao's faction, with loyalty at 89 or below. 5. Xu You is not the commander of a city, Bargain, port, or army on the field. 6. Cao Cao's faction has captured Bai Ma. 7. Cao Cao himself is located at Guan Du, or is commanding an army originating from Guan Du. 8. Yuan Shao's faction has all together more than 30,000 soldiers stationed within the territories of Bai Ma, Pu Yang, Guan Du, Dun Qiu, and Dong Ah. 9. Yuan Shao still has food. 10. Cao Cao's faction sends an officer to try to hire Xu You. TRIGGER: Hire Xu You. RESULTS: 1. Cao Cao's faction's reputation goes up. 2. Yuan Shao's faction's reputation goes down. 3. Any of Yuan Shao's soldiers stationed at Bai Ma, Pu Yang, Guan Du, Dun Qiu, and Dong Ah are reduced by 90%. Any of Yuan Shao's armies based from these territories automatically retreat to their home bases. 4. Yuan Shao's faction's food supply is reduced by 70%. 5. The loyalty of Cao Cao's faction's officers goes up. PERSONAL NOTE: It's pretty obvious (to me) that ALL of those territories listed above in Requirement 8 do not have to be controlled by Yuan Shao. He could control some of them or just one. The point is that AMONG those territories, Yuan Shao needs 30,000 soldiers stationed. Thanks also goes out to Verenti from GameFAQs.com for helping me with Requirement #6. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6. THE BATTLE OF CHI BI RECOMMENDED SCENARIO: Standard scenario #5 (207) RECOMMENDED FACTION TO CONTROL: Sun Quan EVENT LOCATION: n/a OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 1. Zhou Yu serves Sun Quan's faction. 2. Your faction's relationship with the faction that controls Xiangyang (likely Cao Cao) is hostile. 3. The faction that controls Xiangyang is NOT Liu Bei's. 4. Zhou Yu is stationed at Lu Kou or is commanding an army originating from Lu Kou. 5. At Wu Lin, Chang Sha, Lu Kou, Han Jin, Hua Rong, Jiang Xia, Xia Kou, or Wu Chang, there is at least one army unit travelling by ship. 6. The faction that controls Xiangyang has at least 30,000 soldiers stationed throughout Wu Lin, Chang Sha, Lu Kou, Han Jin, Hua Rong, Jiang Xia, Xia Kou, and Wu Chang. TRIGGER: Event happens at the end of an Execution Phase. RESULTS: 1. Your faction's reputation goes up. 2. The reputation of the faction who controls Xiangyang goes down. 3. The faction who controls Xiangyang loses 90% of its soldiers stationed at Wu Lin, Chang Sha, Lu Kou, Han Jin, Hua Rong, Jiang Xia, Xia Kou, and Wu Chang. All of that faction's armies automatically retreat to their home bases. 4. The loyalty of your faction's officers goes up. PERSONAL NOTE: Again, as with the battle of Guan Du, ALL of those territories listed above in Requirements 5 and 6 do not have to be controlled by the enemy faction. He could control some of them or just one. The point is that AMONG those territories, the enemy faction needs 30,000 soldiers stationed. Also, it doesn't seem to make sense that Zhou Yu could be stationed or based out of Lu Kou if the enemy owns it, so use a bit of common sense about how this event is to be done. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. GAZING OUT PAST THE SEA RECOMMENDED SCENARIO: What If? #6 RECOMMENDED FACTION TO CONTROL: Cao Cao EVENT LOCATION: Lang Xie (Xia Pi) OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 1. Your faction's reputation is 700 or higher. 2. Your faction controls at least two whole provinces. 3. You send an officer to search Lang Xie TRIGGER: Search Lang Xie RESULTS: 1. Your faction's reputation goes up. 2. The loyalty of your faction's officers goes up. 3. Your faction's liege's Leadership, War, Intelligence, and Politics stats go up by 5 points. 4. The Japanese-Wo city appears (on the far east side of the map). PERSONAL NOTE: By the way, if you want to unlock all of the What If? scenarios, you have to defeat the Japanese city you just discovered... all 500,000 soldiers of them (if you're playing on Expert mode)... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8. CONFERRING THE THRONE RECOMMENDED SCENARIO: Standard Scenario #8 (225) RECOMMENDED FACTION TO CONTROL: Cao Pi EVENT LOCATION: Tai Shan (Pu Yang) OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 1. Your liege's title is Emperor. TRIGGER: Send the liege to search Tai Shan. RESULTS: 1. Your liege's Leadership, War, Intelligence, and Politics stats will each go up by 3-5 points. 2. Your faction's reputation goes up. 3. The loyalty of your faction's officers goes up. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9. LIU BEI, THE PRINCE OF HAN ZHONG RECOMMENDED SCENARIO: What If? #4 (200) RECOMMENDED FACTION TO CONTROL: Liu Bei EVENT LOCATION: n/a OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 1. The Han Emperor has not been abolished yet. 2. You play at least 1 full month (i.e. 3 turns). 3. Liu Bei is a liege. 4. Your faction controls Han Zhong. 5. Your liege's title is Duke or lower. 6. Your faction's reputation is 600 or higher. TRIGGER: Event occurs at the end of an Execution Phase at the end of a season. RESULTS: 1. Your faction's reputation goes up. 2. Your title is now Prince. PERSONAL NOTE: Haven't you noticed that if you want to get to Prince through normal means, you need at least 800 reputation? Liu Bei cheats! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 10. THE DUKE OF SHAN YANG RECOMMENDED SCENARIO: Standard Scenario #8 (225) RECOMMENDED FACTION TO CONTROL: Sun Quan EVENT LOCATION: He Nei (Luo Yang) OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 1. It is before 234 AD (otherwise Liu Xie, the former Emperor is dead). 2. The Han Dynasty has been abolished. 3. Your faction was not the one who abolished the Han Dynasty. 4. Your faction's reputation is 700 or higher. 5. Your faction controls at least two whole provinces. 6. Your liege's title is not Emperor -OR- you are a Liu faction. TRIGGER: Search He Nei. RESULTS: 1. 3D. You are promoted to Emperor and accordingly you get another level of ranks and titles to which you may grant your officers. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 11. The loyalty of your faction's officers goes up. 3. All officers of Shu acquire the 3rd Level Foot Archers and the Tower tactics. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 12. THE FIVE TIGERS RECOMMENDED SCENARIO: Standard Scenario #7 (219) RECOMMENDED FACTION TO CONTROL: Liu Bei EVENT LOCATION: n/a OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 1. You play at least 1 full month (3 turns). 2. Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Zhao Yun, Huang Zhong, and Ma Chao are alive and all serve Liu Bei's faction. TRIGGER: Event occurs at the end of an Execution Phase at the end of a season. RESULTS: 1. Your faction's reputation goes up. 2. The loyalty of Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Zhao Yun, Huang Zhong, and Ma Chao goes up. 3. Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Zhao Yun, Huang Zhong, and Ma Chao each acquire the Dismantle and Rally tactics. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 13. THE TWO QIAOS RECOMMENDED SCENARIO: What If? #3 (197) RECOMMENDED FACTION TO CONTROL: Sun Ce EVENT LOCATION: n/a OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 1. Sun Ce and Zhou Yu are both alive and well. 2. Your faction controls Shou Chun and the whole province of Yang (cities of Mo Ling, Wu, Hui Ji, Chai Sang, and Lu Jiang) TRIGGER: Event occurs at the end of an Execution Phase at the end of a season. RESULTS: 1. The lives of Sun Ce and Zhou Yu are both extended. 2. Your faction's reputation goes up. 3. If Cao Cao is a liege of a faction, then his relationship with your faction worsens. NOTE: It is possible to do this if you use Standard Scenarios #1-3, but no scenario after 210. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 14. SUN SHANG XIANG RECOMMENDED SCENARIO: Standard Scenario #5 (207) RECOMMENDED FACTION TO CONTROL: Liu Bei EVENT LOCATION: n/a OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 1. The relationship between Liu Bei's faction and the Sun family faction goes up. 3. Liu Bei and Sun Shang Xiang both acquire the Arrowship and the Warship tactics. NOTE: It is possible to do this if you use Standard Scenarios #1-5 but it won't work after 220 as this is when Lady Sun returned to the Kingdom of Wu. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 15. ENDING CREDITS RECOMMENDED SCENARIO: n/a RECOMMENDED FACTION TO CONTROL: n/a EVENT LOCATION: n/a OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 1. Finish a game. TRIGGER: Event occurs at the end of the game. RESULTS: 1. Satisfaction. 2. Pride. 3. Distinct urge to play again. PERSONAL NOTE: What did you expect? They're just credits! ======================================================================== Douglas Lee 16 May 2004
