I made this guide because I like air to air combat in Generals and I thought a quick reference might be useful. This guide only focuses on airplanes that are built at airfields. This guide also assumes that all aircraft upgrades have been purchased for all teams (i.e. you and your opponent(s) have all bought all possible upgrades: LGM's, Black Napalm etc.). Do not email me asking me what airplane can shoot down a B2 Bomber, A-10, Spectre Gunship....etc. 3.0 USA --USA Air Force-- **AFG= Air Force General / SWG=Super Weapon General/ Aurora Bombers can only be shot down AFTER they drop their payload/ Nuke MiG= Nuke General's MiG with Tactical Nuke upgrade from Missile silo** The USA Air Force comes with: Raptor, Stealth Fighter, Aurora Bomber, Comanche, AFG Comanche, AFG Stealth Fighter, AFG Aurora Bomber, King Raptor and SWG Aurora Alpha Bomber To shoot down You will need -------------- ------------- 1 Raptor 2 Raptors/1 King Raptor 1 Stealth Fighter 1 Raptor/1 King Raptor 1 Aurora Bomber 1 Raptor/1 King Raptor 1 Comanche 1 Raptor/1 King Raptor ---------- Conclusion ---------- Not much to say here. Except that it's obvious that the King Raptor can easily gain control of the sky versus the regular USAF. Upgrading to counter measures can also help in winning air battles. To shoot down You will need -------------- ------------- 1 King Raptor 2 Raptors/2 King Raptors 1 AFG Stealth Fighter 2 Raptors/1 King Raptors 1 AFG Aurora 1 Raptors/1 King Raptors 1 AFG Comanche 1-2 Raptors/1 King Raptors ---------- Conclusion ---------- Things get interesting here. The AFG Stealth fighter can take a bit more of a beating than the regular Stealth. Same thing for the AFG Comanche (1 EXPERIENCED Raptor can shoot down a single AFG Comanche). But that is not the only problem. Not only do some of the planes have more armor but they also have that laser missile defense. Your best bet here is to build Avengers or try to take out the opponent(s) air field. Look at it this way: If there is a like 6-8 Raptors from one player attacking you at once early in the game. The player might have neglected building a war factory and/or base defenses, so use that to your advantage. To shoot down You will need -------------- ------------- 1 SWG Aurora Alpha 1 Raptor/1 King Raptor ---------- Conclusion ---------- Nothing new here except the Aurora has a flashier name and Fuel Air Bombs. Easy Slice. To shoot down You will need -------------- ------------- 1 MiG 2 Raptors/1 King Raptor 1 Nuke MiG 2 Raptors/1 King Raptor 1 Helix 2 Raptors/1 King Raptor ---------- Conclusion ---------- Only big threat here is a Nuke MiG having the chance to fire first (If it hits any of your planes they are going down for sure) and flying into 2-3 Helixes with Gattling guns. ---------------- USAF Conclusion ---------------- Reasonable Air force. The AFG laser defense and counter measures can be useful in air to air. Just watch out for gattling cannons, and the Nuke MiG's missiles. 4.0 China --Chinese Air Force- ** Nuke MiG= Nuke General's MiG with Tactical Nuke upgrade from Missile silo, Aurora Bomber can only be shot down after they drop their payload.** The Chinese Air Force comes with: Nuke MiGs, MiGs, and the Helix helicopter To shoot down You will need -------------- ------------- 1 Raptor 2 MiGs/1 Nuke MiG 1 Stealth Fighter 1 MiG/1 Nuke MiG 1 Aurora Bomber 1 MiG/1 Nuke MiG 1 Comanche 1-2 MiGs/1 Nuke MiG ---------- Conclusion ---------- Everything here seems reasonably balanced when compared to the USAF. In fact prior to Zero Hour there were times when like more than 4 MiGs were needed to knock down 1 Raptor. Anyways, 1 Comanche can actually be shot down with a single MiG if the Mig pilot has experience. To shoot down You will need -------------- ------------- 1 King Raptor 2 MiGs/1 Nuke MiG 1 AFG Stealth Fighter 2 MiGs/1 Nuke MiG 1 AFG Aurora 1 MiG/1 Nuke MiG 1 AFG Comanche 1-2 MiGs/1 Nuke MiG ---------- Conclusion ---------- Once again the AFG Comanche and AFG Stealth Fighter can take more of a beating (1 EXPERIENCED MiG can shoot down a single AFG Comanche). The Chinese Air Force biggest problem here is the AFG air plane laser defense system. Since each MiG only carries 2 missiles and a single King Raptor can intercept at least 4 missiles at once or more. To shoot down You will need -------------- ------------- 1 SWG Aurora Alpha 1 MiG/1 Nuke MiG ---------- Conclusion ---------- Nothing new here. Just watch out for those EMP Patriots the SWG might have on the way back. To shoot down You will need -------------- ------------- 1 MiG 2 MiGs/1 Nuke MiG 1 Nuke MiG 2 MiGs/1 Nuke MiG 1 Helix 3-4 MiGs/2 Nuke MiG ---------- Conclusion ---------- There are 2 threats here. Number one is: the Nuke MiG's missiles can easily knock out 2-3 Migs if they are flying close enough together. Number two is: 3-4 MiGs (Pilot experience can reduce the number of needed planes) for one Helix is a problem. Why? Well, this leaves your planes very open for return fire on the way back if there are 3 Helix choppers and you knock out only one. -------------------------- Chinese Air Force Conclusion -------------------------- Well, the Chinese Air Force seems good. Especially after getting the Black Napalm upgrade. Only big problem is getting a Nuke silo up to buy the Nuke MiG upgrade. One thing to watch out for is that if a Nuke MiG engages another air plane too close, the blast from its missiles can damage and kill your plane too. Nothing sucks more than sending 4 Nuke MiGs to engage 2 Raptors and have the concussion blast from your missiles kill off 3 of your Migs. I hope this guide is of help to you.
