After starting a game, press [Ctrl][K]. This will give you access to the map editor and scenario commands to alter gameplay. Cheat Code Result [Y] Reveal map [Shift][F1] create unit [Shift][F2] technological discovery [Shift][F3] switch sides/set view [Shift][F4] change/set energy credits [Shift][F5] change year [Shift][F6] kill opponent [Shift][F7] view replay [Shift][F8] view movies [Shift][F9] edit faction diplomacy A way to get energy credits with out the phrase "CHEATED" coming up on the score. To avoid this: The game saves in the savegame, if the [Ctrl][K] cheat has be used, at the offset 3C in the savegame. Open the save game with a hex editor and change this offset to 00, then your result will be valid for the highscore. Edit at these offsets: Gaians - 2608 Hive - 46c4 University - 6780 Morganites - 883c Spartans - a8f8 Believers - c9b4 Peasekeepers - ea70 Change example: offset 6780 0a00 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 ................ Change 0a = 10 to 4042 0f = 1,000,000. Use the base converter with the program set to Intel, unasserted long to get the proper hex format. Tips If you're overwhelmed by the amount of detail, then don't be afraid to set Terraformers on autopilot and let Governors handle your bases; you'll learn more quickly by watching what the AI does than by trial and error. Don't go "mine happy" early on. Nutrient-boosting Farms are far more important for city growth. Energy-producing Solar Collectors directly contribute to your income and research. Take the time to explore with pairs of Scouts or Rovers; this way, when one of them stumbles across the inevitable Mindworm, the other unit can attack it. Clear fungus from the squares surrounding your base to keep Mindworms from moving adjacent to them and attacking in the same turn. Create a single Skunkworks city to build a unit with new components as soon as they're researched. This will defray the prototype cost for other cities and will keep you prepared if you suddenly have to change your production in the event of a war. By Daniel de Looze (Rocko), delooze@eisa.net.au --- Some tweaking in the ini file: I have discovered that the ini file for the Alpha Centauri could use some tweaking. Here are some the improvements you might find useful: eax=1 - Enables the use of the EAX from the SB!Live, it's usefull because all the speech is in mp3 format DisableOpeningMovie=1 - Disables the opening movie, usefull when get bored and don't want to wait DirectDraw=1 - Enables the use of DirectDraw if your videocard has it Video Mode=1024 - better resolution So a improved ini file could look like this: [Alpha Centauri] ds3d=1 eax=0 FastUnitAnim=0 SmoothUnitAnim=1 MainFontSize=16 InterludeFontSize=16 DisableOpeningMovie=0 Prefs Format=12 Difficulty=0 Map Type=1 Top Menu=1 Faction=3 Preferences=10111010111000011101110110100110 More Preferences=1110100111100101101000 Semaphore=00000000 Announce=111100001010101001 Rules=1101000001110 Customize=2 Custom World=2, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, Time Controls=1 Latest Save= Latest Scenario= DontResetBeginnerPrefs=0 WindowsFileBox=0 DirectDraw=1 Video Mode=1024 Gamma Correction=129 Main Volume=127 Voice Volume=127 Music Volume=127 SFX Volume=127 Vehicle Groups=1 [PREFERENCES] ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm=0 Ini stuff by Alex Ghetaru, gsorin@fx.ro
