In here you'll find heaps of information on this great NES game, enough to get you through the entire game (hopefully). Before going on with the walkthrough, I'll outline a bit of information about the game (if you know already, you might just want to skip down to the walkthrough). Here we go! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Game Information The Battle of Olympus was released for the NES back in 1988, and in my opinion is one of the better NES games out there. The graphics and sound are great (well, for NES anyway), and the game is challenging enough to keep you playing for quite a while. The gameplay is that of your typical side-scrolling game... move right to left, kill enemies with your weapon, go in doors, up/down stairs, etc. The game's "world" is sort of Metroid-ish, in which there is one big map, divided up into several smaller sections. You can visit many of the areas at the very beginning of the game, but many areas won't be accessible until you find a certain item, destroy a certain monster, etc. The game takes place in ancient Greece, and most of the items and characters throughout the game bear some reference to Greek mythology. All in all, it's quite a fun and challenging game, and definitely worth checking out if you haven't done so already. :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Locations There are several locations to visit throughout Greece. Each section contains items to find, monsters to defeat, people to talk to, and dangers to overcome. Arcadia --> The starting point of your adventure, the forest village of Arcadia is home to the King of the Gods, Zeus. Your first task is to call upon him to enlist the aid of the other gods of the realm. Argolis --> The caverns of Argolis are quite dangerous, housing bats, snakes, bottomless pits, and a pit of salamanders. Prometheus is deep within the caves, guarded by a fearsome lion. Attica --> Attica, being the largest city in Greece, is where a great deal of people live. It is also home to Athena, the Goddess of Wisdom and War. The people of Attica are currently being threatened by the Lamia. Crete --> The island of Crete is home to a labyrinth, where (as you might expect) a fearsome minotaur lives. The God of War, Ares, and the witch Circe also reside deep inside the maze. Laconia --> Laconia is the site of some ancient sea ruins. The Sea God Poseidon resides in Laconia, as well as some fierce monsters. Peloponnesus Forest --> A huge forest where thorns and spiders run rampant. Be careful not to get lost in the confusing trails of the forest! Here you'll find Apollo, God of the Sun, and the Cyclops. Phthia --> The mountains of Phthia are very dangerous indeed. You'll have to watch your step as you fight through the hordes of monsters here. The fearsome dragon Ladon makes its home deep within the mountains, as well as Hephaestos, God of Weapons (?). Phrygia --> This ruined castle is home to all sorts of vile creatures, and is avoided by travellers like the plague. Artemis, the Goddess of the Moon, is said to reside within. Tartarus --> The realm of evil, better known as Hades. You gain access to Tartarus, you'll first need to obtain the three Tokens of Love hidden within Greece. Deep within Tartarus, you'll find Hades, God of Evil. Your quest is to defeat him and save your sweetheart! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Other Things you should know - Most of the Gods have items that will help you on your quest. Some will be given to you, but others must be bought with the Olives that you obtain throughout your journey. You'll sometimes find Olives after defeating creatures. Stand over it and press 'Down' on the control pad to pick it up. - Ambrosia, the Fruit of Life, can be found in several places within Greece. These will lengthen your life bar.. do your best to find them! Also, after defeating some creatures, tiny Ambrosia will appear. These will restore one block of your health. - Some monsters (or obstacles) can only be overcome with certain weapons. Just because you obtain a better weapon does not mean you will never use your old one again! - Before stopping play, be sure to visit one of the Gods and obtain your password. This will let you resume play from where you left off (as if you didn't already know that :P). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OK! Now enough with that, on with the walkthrough! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= = Part Two: The Walkthrough - -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= *NOTE* A lazy person could easily follow this walkthrough from beginning to end to get through the game, but that probably wouldn't be much fun, now would it? I suggest resorting to the walkthrough only when you get stuck, or for when you have finished the game already, and want to make sure you get everything the game has to offer. :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Meet with Zeus, King of the Gods After starting a new game and naming the 'Hero' and 'Heroine' characters, you will start your adventure in Arcadia. Right now, you are equipped with only a Club, which will serve well for now but will become useless against tougher monsters. *NOTE* You should probably know, but to move around use Left and Right on the control pad, and to go up stairs or enter doors, press 'Up'. To crouch down, press 'Down'. Got it? :P An old man in the first house tells you that the first thing you should do is go to the Temple of Arcadia and meet Zeus. To get there, make your way to the right. Little blue annoying Slimes will drop down from the trees above... you'll have to whack them with your Club while they're in the air to get rid of them. Continue to the right past trees and houses until you come to a white house. Enter it and go out the other side. Now, make your way to the left, and you'll have your first encounter with a 'boss' monster. -Taurus- Taurus (as you probably know) is a bull, and will charge you when you get into sight. Killing him isn't hard, however. When he charges at you, just whack him with your club, and you'll knock him back. It'll take 4 club hits to defeat him. Once that nuisance is out of the way, continue left and enter the Temple. Move to the right, and talk to Zeus by kneeling down and pressing 'B'. He will call upon the other Gods to bless you with their powers. Of course, we still have to find them first! :P Now that you have met with Zeus, exit the temple. Your journey begins! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Athena Make your way back to the forest of Arcadia (you'll have to beat up Taurus again along the way... bleah). Walk left, and enter the first door you see to get to Attica! Once in Attica, walk to the right. Watch out for the little annoying midgets with spears. When they get close, they'll throw the spear, then take off. The only way to avoid the spear at this point is jumping. Move to the right, then walk down the stairs to reach the city of Eleusis. Continue to the right and soon you'll come to a mountainous area. Enter the mountain pass and on the other side you'll come to Athens. (Further to the right is Phthia, but you can't get there yet.) In Athens, move to the right and soon you will come to the temple of Athena. Note that if you kneel down in front of the fountain outside the temple, your health points will be restored! Talk to Athena and she will give you a shield (coincidentally called "Athena's Shield". :P). This shield will allow you to reflect some enemies' weapons... for example, the spears those annoying midget guys throw at you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Lamia and the Staff of Fennel Now that we have the Shield, we have some chance of getting rid of that pesky Lamia that has been terrorizing Attica. Walk back to Eleusis and go downstairs again, then make your way left to meet the Lamia. -Lamia- The Lamia is a creature with the lower body of a snake, and the upper body of a woman. She (it) uses a bow and arrow to attack, but since you have Athena's Shield, the arrows can be reflected. The Lamia is still rather dangerous, however, as she (it) can take off 2 blocks of life with each arrow! Stand still and she will come toward you, and start shooting arrows when she gets close enough. If you stand still, the arrows should bounce right off your shield. Right after she fires, run forward, jump, and strike her, then quickly run back. Repeat this, and you shouldn't have too much trouble defeating her. It'll take 6 hits from your Club to get rid of her. After the Lamia is defeated, a hole will open up in a nearby cave. There you will find the kidnapped boy! After rescuing him, walk back to the right and talk to the boy's mother (in the house above), and she will give you the Staff of Fennel. This is a better weapon and should be equipped! The Staff has the power to shoot fire, but you will first have to visit Prometheus in order to gain this power. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Argolis and Hermes Our next stop is the caves of Argolis. To get there, first head back to Arcadia. Once back in Arcadia, move to the left and enter the third hollowed-out tree you come to. Exit out the other side, and continue to the left. Enter the house at the very end of the path to reach Argolis! Move to the right and at the end of the path you'll find two cave entrances. Each leads to a different part of the caves. Prometheus is being held somewhere in these caves, but in order to get to him we will need to get Hermes' Sandals. Fortunately, Hermes resides in this very cave! Enter the right cave, then make your way to the right, defeating bats and snakes along the way. Be careful not to fall down! Each time you die, you lose half your olives. :( Soon you will come to the Temple of Hermes. But what's this? Hermes has been summoned by Zeus! D'oh! *NOTE* If you have 50 olives (or at least have the patience to get 50 olives), there is an ambrosia to be found under Hermes' Temple. Fall into the pit to the left of the temple, and you'll fall into a nest of Salamanders. Be careful! These guys are not your average snake, and can take a big bite of you! Move to the right and enter the door you come to. The old man inside will sell you an Ambrosia for 50 olives! These not only lengthen your life bar, but they restore you to full health as well! Continue to the right and enter the other door to get back up to Argolis. *ANOTHER NOTE* If you need a recharge, but don't have 50 olives to cough up for the Ambrosia, there is another similar pit nearby, only filled with snakes instead of salamanders. Move one screen to the left of Hermes' Temple and you'll see two pits. Fall into the one on the right and you'll fall into a cave with some snakes. Move right and enter the door, and you'll find a waterfall. Kneel in front of it and your life will be restored! There is a door further right that takes you back up to Argolis. You know what this means, unfortunately. Go all the way back to Arcadia and enter the temple of Zeus. You'll find Hermes here, and he will give you the Sandals! Now you can jump higher, and even defy gravity! While moving left and right, jump and hold down the A button, and you will flip upside-down and cling to the ceiling (assuming of course, there is a ceiling. :P)! Now let's go save Prometheus! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Prometheus Now, back to Argolis once more. This time, enter the left cave. Make your way to the right, and at the end of the path you'll meet the Lion! -Lion- The Lion is really easy. Defeat him like you did Taurus, by whacking him with your Staff when he comes near. It will only take 3 strikes with your Staff to get rid of him. Piece of Cake! After the battle, a cave will open up nearby. Go inside and talk to Prometheus, and as thanks for saving him will give you the power to shoot fireballs with your Staff! To shoot a fireball, hold 'UP' on the control pad as you attack. Now that we have the power of fire, we should visit the Peloponnesus Forest! To get there, go back to Arcadia and walk all the way to the right, past the Temple of Zeus. Enter the hollowed-out tree at the very end to enter the forest! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. Peloponnesus Forest Once in the forest, move to the right, but watch out for the spider webs. If you walk into one, you'll have to jump and hack your way out using the A and B buttons. The best way to avoid them is flip upside-down using the Sandals. :) At the right edge of the screen, there will be a path leading into the actual forest. Here is where you will need to take care not to get lost. There are many paths from here leading to different sections of forest. They look very similar... the obvious intent here is to confuse you into becoming lost. :P Walk to the right and take the first path. You'll come out in a different section (the trees here will be slightly lighter in color). Now, walk left and take the second path you come to, and you'll reach the temple of Apollo. Talk to him and he'll give you the Harp! *NOTE* The Harp is used to call on Pegasus to help you. You may have noticed some blocks with an inscription of the sun upon them. Stand near these and play the Harp, and Pegasus, the winged horse, will take you to a different part of the world. There's a list of these in the Reference Lists section of the FAQ. ;) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Hydra and the Cyclops Exit Apollo's Temple and take the path all the way on the left. Now, make your way right again and take the second path from the right. You'll come out in an area with a lot of thorns. This is where your Staff of Fennel comes in useful! Use the fire-power of the Staff to burn away the dry thorns. After continuing left for a while, you'll come to a river where you'll have to defeat Hydra! -Hydra- Doesn't look much like a Hydra, eh? This 'sea dragon' will jump out of the river at you. He's not too hard to defeat, just find the spot where he is hiding, wait for him to jump out, and smack him with your Staff of Fennel. It will take 8 strikes from the Staff of Fennel to waste him. :) After getting rid of the 'Hydra', continue left and talk to the Spirit of the Forest, who was being held captive by Hydra. She will give you a sword. Now we can defeat the Cyclops who is blocking the path to Laconia! Go all the way back to the right, past the thorns, and into the forest area. Walk to the left, and take the second path from the left. You'll soon engage the Cyclops! *NOTE* There is an Ambrosia to be found in this area! Before confronting the Cyclops, you'll have to leap across three tree limbs. Situate yourself atop the third (far left) limb, duck down, and strike the tree trunk. An Ambrosia will fall from the top of the tree... get it! (A guy nearby gave you a clue about this :)) -Cyclops- The cyclops has only one weakness... his single eye. To defeat him, you'll have to hit him in the eye with your sword (make sure you are indeed using the sword... the club or staff won't affect him). The Cyclops is really easy... just walk towards him and he will fall back. Once he can't go back any further, get close to him and crouch down. Wait for him to hurl his boulder, then jump up and stab him in the eye. Strike him 4 times to defeat him! After getting rid of Cyclops, move to the left and enter Laconia! --------------------------------------------------------------------- 8. Laconia and Poseidon Laconia is dangerous! The monsters are quite powerful, and it is not very hard at all to get killed here. Make your way to the right, dodging and defeating foes along the way. You'll have to be a bit careful though, as the ruins are unstable in some places! If you accidentally strike the wrong column, you may get dumped down below. One column, however, contains a treasure to be found! On the far right of Laconia, there is a sun-pillar just before you reach the Ocean. Duck down and strike the column directly after the pillar. A flask will drop down from the ceiling! This flask holds nectar, which you can find at the fountain near Athena's Temple, or anywhere else you can refresh your health! Now walk back to the left, past the sun pillar. There is another column nearby, that when shaken, dumps you down below to a door. It leads to a cave that is completely dark! First use your fire-power of the Staff of Fennel to light things up. Enter the other cave entrance to find the Temple of Poseidon. He will sell you the Ocarina for 60 Olives! Yeech! Build up the money and fork it over, and he will give you the Ocarina. This mysterious musical instrument allows you to call forth dolphins which will carry you across bodies of water. Before we go dolphin-surfing all over Greece, there is one other thing to be done in Laconia. Go to the lower area of Laconia, and make your way all the way to the right. Enter the door there and you'll find yourself back inside the dark cave. Shine some light on the subject with the Staff of Fennel, then carefully make your way to the right. You'll have to fight another Cyclops! -Cyclops #2- Take this one out the same way you did the first. Note however this one is a bit stronger, requiring 6 hits with the sword to kill. After killing it, you'll receive another Ambrosia! Also, enter the cave to the right and fill up your flask at the waterfall! Once done here, go back to the top area of Laconia and make your way all the way right to reach the ocean. Play your Ocarina and a Dolphin will pop out of the water. Ride it out to a small island where you'll have to fight the Siren! -Siren- Siren is a creature with the upper body of a woman and the lower body of a bird. Her song lures you in close to her, so that she can crush you with her talons. If you become charmed, play Apollo's Harp to free yourself. All you have to do is hit her 3 times with your sword, but even this can be somewhat difficult due to the fact that Siren flies around the air. After defeating her, a cave entrance will open up. Enter, use the Staff of Fennel to light up the area, and move to the right. Yipes! -Graeae- The Graeae are sorceresses, and will disappear/reappear at random. When they appear, they will shoot a blast of energy at you, then disappear and re-appear somewhere else. There are 3 of them, and each takes 2 sword hits to dispatch. The last one defeated will leave behind the Crystal Ball, a magical item that allows you to see hidden doors! Now, move back left and jump up the stairs, and enter the cave to get back to the entrance to Laconia. There are a few new things to do now... for starters, head back to Argolis. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 9. The First Nymph Once back in Argolis, enter the left cavern, move right a short way, and use the Crystal Ball. A hidden cave should appear. Enter it, and make your way back to the left. Enter the cave at the top, and inside you will find the first Nymph! She will give you the first Heart and you will also receive a message from your sweetheart. Now that we have obtained the first heart, we can prove to the man in Attica that you are really the Hero! But before we do that, remember that Salamander Pit I told you about before? In Crete there is a witch called Circe, who can make you a Salamander Shield if you bring her enough Salamander skins. By defeating the Salamanders inside the pit, you may receive their skin. Collect 20 of these skins for the witch... we'll use them later! After that, go back to Keleos, who lives in Attica. Now that you have the first heart, the proof of your courage, he will acknowledge you as the 'Hero' and give you a key. This key will be used in Phthia, which is our next stop! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 10. The Mountains of Phthia Remember how to get there? Let's hope so. After meeting Keleos, move back to the left, out to the mountainous region. From there, it's a short walk to the right to where the monster Gaea sleeps. To wake it up, play your Ocarina. However, it isn't too happy when it wakes up, and attacks! -Gaea- Fortunately, the monster is really easy. It will lumber towards you, throwing boulders when it gets close enough. Use the Cyclops strategy here... wait for it to throw it's boulder, then jump up and stab it in the head when it gets close enough. It will take 5 strikes from the sword to finish it off. Once Gaea is gone, enter Phthia! Phthia is dangerous, even more so than Laconia! Not only will you have to worry about pesky monsters getting in your way, you'll have to be careful not to fall off the mountain! First move to the left, and down the stairs. On the far left of this screen is a cave that contains a waterfall where you can refill your health if needed (and you probably will :P). Climb back upstairs, go one screen left, then hop onto the ledge, and go back right. Traverse the upper area and hop over to the ledge on the right. Soon you'll come to a cave with old man inside. Talk to him and he'll give you an Ambrosia! Yay! All the way to the left is the Temple of Hephaestos. For 70 Olives, he will give you the Divine Sword, the strongest weapon in the game. I recommend you build up olives nearby and get this sword (it might be safer to get olives elsewhere)... you'll need it! Head back to the entrance of Phthia and start making your way to the right. Soon you'll encounter a Centaur. -Centaur- Well, it's not really a boss, but it's annoying (and tough) enough to be one. Centaurs (as if you didn't know :P) are mythical creatures with the upper body of a man and the lower body of a horse. This guy jumps around, shooting arrows at you in a most annoying fashion. Your best bet would just to avoid the thing entirely... run past it and hope you don't take too much damage. It'll take 4 hits with the Divine Sword to kill it! At the far right is a waterfall. Press up near it and you'll enter the hidden passage behind it. Continue forward and soon you'll reach the garden of Hesperides. Fight your way through and face Ladon, the dragon! -Ladon- Ladon looks similar to the Hydra, only this dragon flies around. He's not too terribly tough, just strike him with the Divine Sword when he comes near. It'll take 10 hits to take him out. Once Ladon is defeated, you will receive the Golden Apple! The apple will restore your health, and it will also increase your defense! You'll now take 1/2 damage from enemies (and about time too, no? :P) Go back to the waterfall, jump up the ledge a bit, and take the upper passage leading behind (it's in mid-air so it may take a few tries to get in). Walk to the right, using your Crystal Ball and you will find a hidden cave! Go inside, unlock the door with your Key, and talk to the Nymph within! That's two... only one more left! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 11. Crete Well, now we have two of the three hearts. The second one will allow you to face down the Minotaur who resides deep within the labyrinth of Crete. Since all signs point in that direction now, let's head for Crete! However, before doing so, gain 80 olives by defeating monsters. Unfortunately, Circe isn't going to let us have the shield for free. :( Head back for Laconia, make your way right to the ocean, play the Ocarina, and ride the Dolphin across the ocean to reach Crete. Crete is not a pleasant place, to say the least. It is a labyrinth of confusing passages... think of it as the big brother of the Peloponnesus Forest. Within the labyrinth lies Circe the witch, the Minotaur, and Ares the God of War. At the entrance to Crete you'll have to face down a Blue Knight. Just kneel down and strike him in the knees 4 times and he's history. Now, enter Crete. Walk left and enter the first door you come to. Then, continue left and enter the first door you come to again. You'll find a waterfall inside... use it for a recharge if you need. Two doors down to the left is the path that leads to the Hall of Ares. He will give you the Power Bracelet... for 80 olives. Whatever you do, don't tell Ares you will buy the bracelet if you don't have enough olives! He'll get pissed and take away your Sandals. Yeech! The power bracelet will double the power of your attacks! Also, it allows you to perform the Divine Sword's special attack (fire a lightning bolt by holding 'UP' and attacking) without losing any health. Quite useful! From the waterfall room, go right and enter the second door you come to. Then, continue right and enter the second door you come to again. In the red area, go left and enter the first door. This is the hall that leads to the minotaur. Destroy the force field with your sword and get ready to fight! -Minotaur- The Minotaur is a giant of a man with the head of a bull and a temper to match. This guy is _tough_... it'll take 8 hits in the knees with the Divine Sword to kill him (assuming you have the power bracelet). He'll hurl axes at you... these can be blocked by your shield, but he throws them too fast for you to pull any real evasive maneuvers on him. One strategy is to make sure you have close to full health and a full flask of nectar, back him up against the wall, crouch down and stab for all you're worth. :P Once the Minotaur is defeated, enter the cave that appears. You'll meet the third and final Nymph, and receive the third (and final) Heart. Now that all three hearts are united, the way to Tartarus has been opened! However, there are a few things left to do before heading to Tartarus. The first thing is what we intended to come here for in the first place... get that blasted shield from Circe! Chances are that you splurged all your olives on Ares' Power Bracelet, so I recommend you head back to one of the safer sections to build up 80 more olives. A good place would be the snake (not salamander) pit in Argolis, as there are easy enemies and a waterfall, and even a passage to Crete (via the seashore at the end of the right-hand cave). When you're ready, head back to Crete once more. *NOTE* These directions are from the Laconia entrance to Crete. If you came in the Argolis way, then you'll have some wandering around to do... :P Walk left, and enter the second door you come to. Then, continue left, enter the second door you come to, then go right and enter the first door. Inside you'll find Circe, you will make you a Salamander Shield, provided you have both 80 olives and 20 Salamander skins. Now, there is only one thing left to do before going to Tartarus. You knew it was coming, and were dreading it the whole time... but now it's time to go to... -shudder-... Phrygia. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 12. Phrygia Put simply, Phrygia is a nightmare. It's the kind of place that makes Hell seem like not such a bad place to be. There are all kinds of powerful monsters running around, and is large enough so that you can get lost rather easily. To get there, you'll have to use the Dolphin from the seashore in Attica (remember where you fought the Lamia?). Use your Ocarina and head towards Phrygia. Here we go... Our task here is to find Artemis, and then get the heck out of here. Before you even enter the castle, you'll have to face down (or run from) a Black Pegasus. Chances are, you'll never really appreciate the special attack of the Divine Sword until Phrygia. Since you have the Power Bracelet, feel free to abuse the heck out of it... you'll probably need it. Once inside the ruins, move to the right, past the door and stairs, then enter the door on the far right. Phrygia is divided into inside and outside sections, basically, so you'll now end up 'inside'. Move to the right and you'll meet a giant fire-breathing snake! There are several of these hanging around, and they can be rather tough. A good strategy is to inch forward (blocking his fireballs with your Salamander Shield) until you in the range of the Divine Sword's lightning bolt. Then, after he shoots, jump up and fire your bolt at his head. It'll take 4 strikes to take him out. Afterwards, continue up the nearby stairs and go back outside. Climb the stairs, then carefully make your way back to the left (watch out for the gargoyles here). Enter the next door, then go downstairs. Make your way to the left and enter the door at the end to find a waterfall. Use this as a re-charge room if you need (and you probably will :P). Retrace your steps and go back outside. Continue upstairs and enter the door at the top. Fight off another giant salamander, then continue left and down the stairs. Ignore the next door, it's almost a death trap as it takes you to a little ledge outside with three gargoyles waiting to knock you off. Continue downstairs and enter the door on the left to go back outside. Climb up to the top of Phyrgia, _carefully_ jump across to the right, then go back down when you reach the other side. Enter the next door, and you'll see stairs leading up and down. First go upstairs to reach a room with an old man (someone living here?!?) who will give you an Ambrosia! If you have gotten all the Ambrosia so far, your life bar should be completely maxed out. Go back downstairs and fight off another giant snake. Don't enter the door! This is another 'trap'... it leads to a dead-end outside, and not only will you have to fight the snake again when you come back again, you'll take damage from it as well since the snake is literally right in front of the door. Use the stairs leading down instead. Make your way left and enter the door on the far left (notice this area is right above the entrance to Phygria. PLEASE don't fall. :P). Climb the stairs back up to the top of Phygria and you'll find the Temple of Artemis! Yay! Talk to Artemis and she will give unto you the Moon Orb, a magical crystal that will be useful in your battle against Hades. Now, we're done here. The easiest way to get out of Phyrgia is, well, kill yourself. You'll end up back at the entrance and lose half your olives (which are now useless since we already have everything!). If you'll remember, Tartarus is on the sea between Argolis and Crete. The easiest way to get there is head back to Argolis, use the cave entrance on the right, and make your way to the back where the seashore is. There, play your Ocarina and ride the dolphin out to Crete. Along the way, you'll find the entrance to Tartraus suspended in mid-air. Whee! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 13. Tartarus We're finally here... the realm of Hades. When you first enter, you'll drop down into a room with doors. One leads to the next room, one leads to a fight with an old boss. There are many rooms like this, so here's a map, the *s being the way you should go, and the Cerberus being the intended goal... Entrance | | * Cyclops | | * Graeae | | Crete Knights * | | Cerberus B. Pegasus (Or to make things easier... left, left, right, left.) :P -Cerberus- Cerberus, the three-headed dog (well it's SUPPOSED to have three heads), is the guardian of Tartarus' Gate. All he does is charge across the room a la Taurus, but you'll have to hit Cerberus in the head(s) to hurt him. It takes 8 strikes to kill him (4 for each head), but you'll have to do it quickly because Cerberus can regenerate (I.E. regain his health). Kill him and kill him fast! Dispose of Cerberus then enter the door that appears. Make your way right across the pit of blue bubbling... stuff, and you'll see two doors at the end. One will be at the very far right, and one will be right next to it to the left (you probably wouldn't see it if you weren't looking). As you would expect, that's the one you need to enter. Continue right past the river and through the next door you will find yourself in a temple area. You'll need to make use of your sandals here, just try not to reverse gravity at the wrong time. =P Further along, you'll find another fire-breathing snake... get rid of him and you'll come to two doors. The bottom one leads down to a fairy who will give you some nectar... go that way if you need a re-charge. The top path leads to an area that looks very much like Argolis. Go left across the bridge and into the door. Be careful not to fall here! If you do, you'll have to backtrack all the way to the left and go back to the river area. Also note that in that direction is a path that actually leads back to Argolis (it's through the door that is the would-be exit to Attica). Instead, make your way to the right. Take the upper path and use the upper door at the other end. Head back left, jump across the gap, and go into the next door. You'll find a fairy here who will re-charge your health. Continue left and into the next door and you'll be back in the temple area. Enter the door on the left, then make your way left past another door and a bunch of knights and enter the door at the far left. Just a little bit longer until you reach Hades! Head right and you'll have to fight Lamia again! She has more health this time around, but should be quite easy since you have your lightning bolt attack. Just deflect her arrows with your shield and use your lightning bolt to make short work of her. Continue right, climb the stairs, and start making your way back to the left. You'll pass by a door... inside is a cheap old man who will sell you Nectar for 30 olives. Of course, chances are that you won't have 30 olives. =( Continue left, and go up the stairs. Move to the right and follow the path. Take the upper road, ignore the first set of stairs you come to, and take the stairs on the far right. Follow the winding path back downstairs, and further downstairs you will find the room where your sweetheart is being held. Unfortunately, she has been turned to stone by Hades. The only way to break the curse is destroy him! Enter the next room and prepare for battle! -Hades- At first, you won't even be able to see Hades, as he is invisible. First, use the Moon Orb you got from Artemis in Phyrgia. The Moon will cast the shadow of both you and Hades on the floor below. Now that you know at least where he is, hit him in the head with your sword. After about seven strikes, he will become visible. Use the same strategy (hit him in the head =/) and after about seven more strikes he will die! Congratulations! You've defeated Hades! Now go back to your sweetheart and watch the ending. You've earned it! =) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- END OF WALKTHROUGH -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= = Part Three: Reference Lists - -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= And, for those of you who are stuck in a particular spot in the game, but don't want to resort to using the full-blown walkthrough, I've compiled some reference lists that will give you a push in the right direction. Here you'll find a list of items, sun pillar destinations, and Ambrosia locations. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SUN PILLAR LOCATIONS As you know, there are several sun pillars located throughout Greece. When you stand in front of these and play Apollo's Harp, the winged horse Pegasus will descend and whisk you off to a different location. Argolis, outside Takes you to Attica, the fountain right outside Athena's Temple Laconia, near ocean Takes you to the very beginning of Arcadia, where you start the game Phthia, near Garden of Hesperides Takes you to sun pillar in Laconia ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AMBROSIA LOCATIONS There are 5 Ambrosia scattered throughout Greece. Each one will lengthen your maximum life capacity by about 6 blocks. #1 -- Old man in a cave in the Salamander Pit in Argolis. He will sell it to you for 50 olives. #2 -- In the Peloponnesus Forest, right before you fight the Cyclops. Stand on one of the tree limbs, kneel down and strike the tree with your weapon. An Ambrosia will fall from the tops of the trees. #3 -- In Laconia, after defeating the Cyclops in the underground Cave, an Ambrosia will be left behind. #4 -- Phthia, an old man in a cave to the left of Phthia's entrance will give an Ambrosia to you. #5 -- Phyrgia, an old man in the upper part of Phyrgia will give an Ambrosia to you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ITEM LIST Ambrosia -- See Above List Apollo's Harp -- Obtained from Apollo in Peloponnesus Forest. This harp summons Pegasus at the sun pillars (see list of locations above), and also frees you from Siren's spell. Athena's Shield -- Obtained from Athena in Attica. This shield will reflect most enemies' weapons... the only thing will not reflect is fire. Club -- Your starting weapon. It's a club. :P Crystal Ball -- Obtained after defeating the Graeae hiding underground in Laconia. This allows you to see hidden passages, namely the ones in Argolis and Phthia. :P Divine Sword -- Obtained from Hephaestos in Phthia (for 70 olives). This is the strongest weapon in the game. You can also fire a lightning bolt by holding 'UP' as you attack. This takes up some of your life, however, unless you have purchased the bracelet from Ares. Fragment of Love #1 -- Found in the hidden passage in Argolis. Use your Crystal Ball to find it. Once this is obtained, Keleos will give you the Key. #2 -- Found behind the locked door in Phthia. Use the Key that Keleos gave you to open it. Once this is obtained, you will be able to fight the Minotaur in Crete. #3 -- Found after defeating the Minotaur in Crete. Once this is obtained, the way to Tartarus will be opened. Golden Apple -- Obtained after defeating Ladon in the Garden of the Hesperides in Phthia. This will double your defense against enemy attacks. Hermes' Sandals -- Obtained from Hermes in Zeus' Temple (he will appear there after you have visited his temple in Argolis). These allow you to jump higher, and also allow you to cling to the ceiling in some places. Key -- Obtained from Keleos in Attica after you have obtained the first fragment of love. This allows you to open the locked door in Phthia. Moon Orb -- Obtained from Artemis in Phyrgia. This item will be used in the final battle against Hades... use it to make his shadow visible. Nymph Sword -- Obtained from the spirit of the forest in Peloponnesus after defeating Hydra. Most stronger monsters can only be defeated with a sword. Ocarina -- Obtained from Poseidon in Laconia (for 60 olives). This musical instrument calls forth dolphins whom can carry you across bodies of water. Power Bracelet -- Obtained from Ares in Crete (for 80 olives). This bracelet will double the power of your attacks, as well as allow you to fire the lightning bolt with the Divine Sword without loss of energy. Salamander Shield -- Obtained from the witch Circe who is hiding in Crete (for 80 olives). You must bring her 20 Salamander skins so she can make the shield. This shield reflects enemy weapons, and fire. Salamander Skin -- Obtained sometimes from defeating the Salamanders in their nest under Argolis. Bring 20 of these to the witch Circe and she will make you a shield. Staff of Fennel -- Obtained from the kidnapped boy's mother in Attica after Lamia is defeated and the child rescued. In order to make it shoot fire, you'll need to defeat the lion in Argolis and save Prometheus. The fire from the staff can burn thorns and light up dark caverns. To activate the fire, hold 'UP' while attacking. --------------------------------------------------------------------- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= = Part Four: Conclusion - -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Well, I guess that's it!
